Thune Norwegian Silver Pair of 2-Light Candelabra in Mid-Century Modern Jensen Style
N.M. Thune, Norwegian 0.830 silver pair of 2-light candelabra in Mid-Century Modern style reminiscent of the work of the great silversmith Georg Jensen. With its elegant proportions and curvilinear designs, including a frieze of stylized motifs at the center, each measures 12 1/2'' from bobeche to bobeche by 4 3/4'' in base diameter by 5'' in height and bears hallmarks as shown. Total weight is 39 troy ounces.
The company was founded in 1857 by Nilius Martinius Thune (1831-90) who took over the business of goldsmith FJ Brinck in Kristiania. During the first half of the 20th century, NM Thune was one of the dominant goldsmith companies of the country. In 1982, NM Thune was sold out by the family and bought by Olav Thon and later by Erling Bjerke.
