La Paglia for International Sterling Silver Bowl in Mid-Century Modern & Jensen Style
Designed by Alphonse La Paglia for International Sterling, sterling silver bowl, in Mid-Century Modern and in Georg Jensen style, with an elegant, geometric design, adorned with stylized and pierced floral motifs at the base. It measures 10'' in diameter by 6 1/2'' in height, weighs 45.5 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown.
The International Silver Company was formed in 1898 by various independent New England silversmiths that, between 1898 and 1903, joined themselves together to form a company that became the world's largest manufacturer of silverware. The International Silver Co. was organized with an authorized capital of $20,000,000.
Alphonse La Paglia (1907-1953), a Sicilian-born silversmith who studied and trained with Georg Jensen, designed this special line for International Sterling in 1952, for only 1 year.
