Puiforcat, French 0.950 (higher purity than sterling) silver serving bowl in Art Deco style, with handles adorned with acanthus leaves. It measures 12 1/8'' from handle to handle (bowl diameter is 7 3/4'') by 1 3/4'' in height, weighs 17.1 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown.
Founded in 1820 by Emile Puiforcat, the Parisian family workshop has passed down its renowned silverwork mastery from one generation to the next. It was the visionary leadership and artistic talent of Jean E. Puiforcat, the fourth generation in the workshop, that truly brought the world’s attention to Puiforcat; his design legacy was a significant contribution to the studio, and in turn a major contribution to the international Art Déco movement of his time.
