Henry Matthews, English sterling silver jewelry box from 1911 (Edwardian era) in repousse pattern, beautifully adorned with floral motifs. It measures 3 7/8'' by 3 5/8'' by 2 1/2'' in height, and bears hallmarks as shown.
Henry Matthews was a Birmingham based silversmith; his first mark was registered in 1894. His office was on Vittoria Street, Birmingham in the Jewelry Quarter. Matthews is particularly remembered for his small silver items that required great attention to detail. Examples of those items are hair brushes, cigarette cases, frames, hat pins, card cases and buttons amongst other items. In 1930 Henry Matthews stopped production.
