S Kirk & Son Sterling Silver Repousse 19th Century Hand Mirror

S. Kirk & Son, sterling silver and glass hand mirror from the 19th century, beautifully adorned with repousse floral motifs, measuring 9 3/4'' in length by in 5 7/8'' width by 5/8'' in depth, and bearing hallmarks as shown. 

Baltimore’s prominent silver manufacturing company, Samuel Kirk & Son, dates its beginning to 1815. Just 5 years later, Maria Hester Monroe, daughter of President James Monroe, was married in the White House. She chose Kirk Mayflower as her silverware pattern. During this early period Kirk introduced to America the repousse treatment for silverware.
