Pair of Gilt Silver Napkin Rings with Finely Engraved Motifs from Late 19th/ Early 20th Century
Pair of gilt, probably coin 0.900, silver napkin rings, designed with finely engraved motifs, including natural and stylized motifs as well as monograms, from the late 19th or early 20th century. Possibly by Shepard Manufacturing Company, they measure 1 3/4'' in diameter by 1 3/4'' in height, weigh 6.1 troy ounces, and bear hallmarks as shown.
Founded and managed by Chester Shepard in Massachusetts, Shepard Manufacturing Company was known for producing over 100 varieties of souvenir spoons as well as napkin rings and other flatware-related articles. Chester Shepard died in 1902 and the business was continued by his son Chester B. Shepard. Their factory closed in 1923.
