Roberts & Belk sterling silver centerpiece basket from 1867 in Victorian style with finelly engraved mythological frieze around the rim with a beaded handle, measuring 12 1/2'' in length by 9'' in width by 3 1/2'' in height (11'' total with the lifted handle). It weighs 28.3 ozt and bears hallmarks as shown.
Roberts & Belk was a firm of English silversmiths, based in the city of Sheffield since 1810. In 1907, Queen Alexandra of Denmark, wife of the English monarch Edward VII, commissioned the firm to create a porridge bowl, which now belongs to the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The firm was sold to C.J. Vander in 1961.
